The Infinite Wrench
An ever-changing parade of performance art pieces, The Infinite Wrench (and its predecessor Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind) are written and rewritten every week, 50 weeks a year, by the ensemble of The Neo-Futurists Theater Company (Chicago, IL). The plays are performed in a random order determined by the audience in the moment, racing against a timer that ticks down from 60 minutes. All plays are written within the demands of the Neo-Futurist aesthetic, which requires that performers are onstage as themselves telling true stories about their lives, opinions, and experiences. The plays themselves may be funny, dramatic, political, abstract, and may take the form of dialogue, dance, poetry, or other art forms.
I was an ensemble member of the company from 2004 to 2016, and Artistic Director from 2012 to 2015. In that time I wrote and performed over 300 individual pieces in addition to performing in work by other ensemble. The show toured regularly, including guest runs in Atlanta, Washington DC, and Houston. I also wrote and shot a handful of short films for the company's The Infinite Wrench Goes Viral programming, a series offered during the pandemic in place of live shows.
